The first step in determining your candidacy for dental implants is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Trilli. At this appointment, Dr. Trilli would identify whether you have adequate bone and healthy gums to support an implant.
The dental implant procedures typically take a total of 6 to 7 months to complete all stages. It begins with a titanium rod being placed where the previous natural tooth’s root once was. The gum is sutured over the implant, where it will stay for 4 to 6 months as the bone fuses around the implant. In some cases, the patient may need grafting material placed to help secure the implant in place. A removable temporary tooth or teeth can be made to place over the implant during healing. This procedure can take 1 to 2 hours to complete with local anesthetic and the option of oral sedation. After the bone has secured the implant in place, the patient will return to the office to have the permanent crown fitted and placed.
It is normal to have some discomfort, however pain should be manageable by over the counter medication or pain medication may be prescribed by Dr. Trilli.
